Academy Expands Autism Program
Fairfield — In furtherance of our mission to serving student who are impacted with a variety of disabilities, Saint Catherine Academy has developed a program specific to students with autism. Our highly structured, multi-disciplinary program is relationship based and individualize to meet the specific and challenging issues students often face. Our program is staffed by a special education teacher with over ten years experience teaching students with autism, and is supported by a BCBA, social worker, speech pathologist, occupational and physical therapy services. Teaching assistants with specific training and experience related to autism provide classroom support.
As a state-approved, private special education school, we hold high expectations for our students as they advance academically; develop interpersonal competencies; and add independent living and vocational skills. Our facility is intentionally designed to help students transition from former environments to one that encourages greater independence. In our nurturing, learning community, students develop positive self-esteem and self-confidence while acquiring the necessary skills to reach their potential for independent living or a return to a mainstream education environment.
