Speech Therapy
Our
Speech program is designed to meet the student’s individualized
educational plan (IEP) or is based on the assessment by St. Catherine
Academy teaching and administrative staff in consultation with
parents/guardians. Services may incorporate Assistive Technology
using devices such as IntelliKeys, Touch Window, Voice Output
Devices (VOD’s) and computer software. Our goal is to provide
a total communication approach. Communication strategies used
for non-verbal students include sign language and assistive technology
in addition to spoken and written words. Social skills as well
as functional language lessons are taught through individual sessions
and in the classroom. Generalization of language skills is an
integral part of the curriculum. Strategies and goals to enhance
functional communication are implemented by all staff across a
variety of settings, (classroom, vocation and daily living skills,
and community experience).
